  Interesting and ironic aspect of JW doctrine.

  i was reading the "news" on fark.com and one of the topics that came up was how some fundamentalists are refusing rabies treatment for their children based on some supposed scripture.

  i suspect it was the same "old light" that the wt used to forbid true christians (meaning jw's) from being vaccinated.. the conversation turned to weird religious beliefs used to make children suffer and their parents to appear more "spiritual" as a result of that suffering (a weird kind of munchausen's complex if you ask me).

  in the process up pop the dubs and blood transfusions.. an observation was that the martyred children are often placed on the cover of the wt literature or have articles written describing their spiritual strength; in other words certain people who have followed the rules are hilighted as being particularly "special" in some way.. just to make sure, i called up my book study reader who has about 50 years of serving the wt and asked him "why don't jw's celebrate mother's day again?".

  Idolatry was always explained to me as the putting of any thing (or one) as an object of veneration in the place of Jehovah God. These children on the magazine cover are being acknowledged and not venerated. I think its a bit of a reach to say its idolatry. Of course they were slaughtered for nothing, but that doesn't make them objects of worship because they are held out as examples to the other lemmings. In Hebrews Paul lists individuals who were faithful and no one accuses him of idolatry. Its a tragedy is what it is, not idolatry.

  Yes, reverent adoration should be expressed only to God. To render worship to anyone or anything else would be a form of idolatry, which is condemned in both the Hebrew and the Greek Scriptures.—Exodus 20:4, 5; Galatians 5:19, 20.*** g00 4/8 p. 26 Is It Proper to Worship Jesus? ***

  In the long run I don't give a flying fig what the Awake has on its cover. Its fishwrap as far as I'm concerned.

  I liked the show when I was a teenager. THere is a site that offers old TV shows. I didn't see the Mod Squad on it, but you never know what they may offer in the future. They have many DVD's of shows I've never seen offered elsewhere. I've not purchased from them as yet. Lemme know what you think.

  lets see now.......... monday night: prepare for the tuesday night book study i will conduct.

  also, have the family monday night watchtower study preparation.. tues night: drive over to an almost inactive brother's house to conduct the book study.

  prepared questions for the children ahead of time.

  Once I gave up the meetings, I found that I'd missed all the episodes of Frazier that were on origionally! I have had a blast, all the reruns are first runs for me....

  Friends as well.

  I hated all the time that was required to stay brain farted. Now I let my brain fart when I want it too.

  Ok guys, I was guilty. Had the mongo box thingy. I was the School overseer, the territory servant and School overseer. I was seeing over everything till I saw through it. No white sox. The P.O. counsled me once on not wearing a new suit. This he said to a pioneer who was working part time and hardly able to make ends meet. He of course was a janitor extroidenaire with six employess and shopped at Macys. A.Hole. I hated lugging that thing, but it was very functional for me at the time. Its in the closet here somewhere storing old letters and crap.

  I had a service bag and the big one for the Kingdom Haul.

  How do you answer this question??

  ok, i'm now da'd as many of you already know.

  it's so fresh that my stomach turns everytime the subject comes up about religion.

  however, something that does puzzle me a bit.......is how do you answer people when they ask you the question "what religion are you?

  I usually say that I'm not a religious person. End of discussion. If they persist and ask, "Do you believe in God?" I answer, "The question should be, does God believe in me?"

  Then I open the sandwich and moosh the mayonaise covered bread in thier face.

  Just kidding.

  I try not to use mayo.

  I need advice

  i have a 14 year old son who lives with his father a jw and his step mother jw who grew up as a witness.

  my ex-husband is fairly well off but his father and family have done very well for them selves.

  the way they pass money down is into the next of kin and when that person dies the next down the line gets it.

  I would say that your son could well drop subtle hints to his Gramps that he may not be able to go to College if his Dad has his way. He is not too young to be talking about it now and then. Did Granfather go to College? Perhaps your boy could ask him which one he attended and what he studied. If your boy talks to a school counselor he could always talk to Gramps about his conversation. Sort of come at it round the corner like. Did your ex go to college?

  I don't know what your ex will do as far as inheritance goes. If he loves his son it shouldn't be an issue. If his wife becomes a widow she will only get what he leaves her. Is he smart enough to have a will? IF he does I'm sure he'll look out for his boy.

  If you're smart you would buy your son a digital movie camera and tell him to start playing with it now. That's what Spielberg did, with an 8mm camera of course. The cameras are cheap these days. It would be a good move for him and at the very least he'll have all sorts of memorys on tape when he's older. Its great fun. I have a friend who went to Longbeach State here in CA. He works for Sony Pictures now. He's working on a script, like many others, but has some connections. Hope all goes well for your boy. Have him look at atomfilms.com if he wants to see the things that people are doing with their cameras these days. Many of these films are by film students.

  I'm sure your boy will be fine if he just sticks to his goals, I hope so anyway.

  Tell your son to start talking up College around Gramps in a low key manner.

The strength went out of my legs as if I were stricken by fear, and I was. I fell as if one with no strength, and I had none. In each clowns hand there were seven cans of silly string, each a different color. And as they sprayed me the said, "Happy and Howling is he who can explain the mystery of the can of snakes. Let him who has rubber ears hear what the spirit says to the clowngregation.

  NEED ADVICE ON FAKING A REINSTATEMENT

  a friend of mine who is df'd is seriously considering trying to get reinstated in order to have his family back in his life.

  this is not an easy decision because he's fully aware that this isn't "the truth", but the pain of being excluded from normal family relations is really tearing him.

  he has two choices: either move away from his family and try and start a new life, or bite the bullet, try and get reinstated and then do the fade.

  Smoking? That's pretty easy to come back from. Of course you will have to quit smoking, they'll smell it a mile away. (That wouldn't hurt you anyway) Your family knows you don't believe it any more? They wont meet you half way? That just makes them wonks who are in captivity to a sick organization, it doesn't make them "shit" or unworthy of your love. In the long run you may free a few with your subtle influence over time.

  Tell the H'elders that you are tired of living in a fog, you know that smoking clouds your head and kept you from praying to Jehovah. Since you stopped, Jehovah is hearing your prayers. Give them examples of how he's helping you accomplish your return. You know, given you strength to resist and making it easier to get to meetings etc. They eat that crap up.
